Losing track of monsters

If the borg was fighting several types of identical monsters (like a groups of Jackals, or Orcs) in a room, there was a chance that he could lose track of couple of them if they moved.  The result is he could be hit by one and not know the monster was there.   So he might be being attacked by 8 Jackals and he would only think there were 6 or 5.
